LalBrew® New England American East Coast Ale Yeast is a true hazy IPA powerhouse, known for producing juicy, tropical aroma with a smooth, pillowy mouthfeel. This strain is perfect for brewing New England IPAs, Milkshake IPAs, and other hazy styles that emphasize late hop additions and aroma over bitterness.

This yeast strain exhibits low flocculation and high ester production, allowing it to remain in suspension for that classic hazy appearance. It imparts fruity notes of peach, apricot, and tropical fruit, especially when paired with modern American hops.

What sets LalBrew® New England apart is its natural expression of the β-glucosidase enzyme, which helps unlock bound hop aroma compounds during fermentation. This enhances biotransformation, intensifying citrus and tropical fruit flavors for next-level hop aroma and complexity.

LalBrew® New England Yeast FAQ

What makes this yeast ideal for Hazy IPAs?

Its low flocculation keeps haze in suspension, while its fruity ester profile and β-glucosidase activity unlock big tropical hop aroma. It’s the ultimate haze-maker.

What is β-glucosidase and why does it matter?

β-glucosidase is an enzyme that helps break down bound hop glycosides, releasing extra hop aroma compounds during fermentation. This intensifies juicy, tropical hop flavors in hazy IPAs.

Can I use this yeast for non-hazy beers?

Technically yes, but it's designed to remain in suspension. If clarity is your goal, a different strain like Safale US-05 may be more appropriate. This one thrives in hazy environments.

How should I store and pitch this yeast?

Keep it refrigerated. Pitch directly into your cooled wort (18–22°C), or rehydrate for better viability in high-gravity or cold fermentations.

Does this yeast require a yeast starter?

Not typically for 5-gallon batches. But for high-gravity beers or fermentations below 64°F, a starter or second pack can ensure a healthy fermentation.

Pro Tip: Pair LalBrew® New England with Citra and Mosaic hops during active fermentation to maximize biotransformation and aroma explosion.
